Enitan was born in Nigeria in a town called Elesha, in Oyo State.
He grew up between Nigeria and the UK in different ‘batches’: aged one to nine in Nigeria, then from fourteen to twenty-one and the third batch was from twenty three to twenty four.
The first move was his mother marrying his father who was British so they moved to England. He started secondary school in England. His father was an engineer and got a job in Nigeria so they moved back. Even though his mother and father returned to England it was felt that he should complete his education in Nigeria so Enitan remained. Later on Enitan worked in England as a croupier in a casino.
Then he returned to Nigeria to do his National Service after his degree. It included paramilitary training and working in industry to give back to society. Enitan returned to the UK in 1994 and has been here since.
He considers it an advantage to have two homes as a child so now as an adult he doesn’t think of home as any specific place. Home to him is where you pay your tax. He doesn’t consider the UK home and he doesn’t consider Nigeria home.
From a young age he had a mindset that we live on a ‘rock’ so everywhere is our home, no geographical boundary. It’s liberating.
