Roger Aidam was born in Somanya, Ghana, and as a young child he was brought up predominantly by his grandmother in Ho, Volta Region, until the age of seven. He then moved to Accra for schooling.
His early education was in various boarding schools in Accra and Cape Coast at the British Colonial School called Adisadel College, an Anglican school in Cape Coast, from 1978 to 1981. The school followed the British curriculum and had a disciplined, regimental system. He had to take the West African Examination to get into secondary school.
Roger's father was a banker, and Roger himself chose a career in Information Technology. He moved to the UK at the age of 15 and attended University Tutorial in London, followed by Southwark College and East Ham College of Technology. He later studied at Hatfield Polytechnic, where he met his wife, Judith.
Roger married Judith in 1991, and they have two children, Lewis and Olivia. The family moved to Chelmsford in 2001 for better schooling opportunities for their children.
Roger faced cultural differences and challenges in the UK, including the cold weather, reserved nature of people, and difficulties in making friends. He also experienced challenges in his career, such as finding jobs and dealing with discrimination.
Roger worked with various IT managed service organisations and had a significant role at Applied Visual Technologies as a field service engineer.
Roger and his family have enjoyed living in Chelmsford despite initial challenges. They found a lovely house and good schools for their children. Roger faced some social challenges, but over time, the community became more accepting.
